Four Kids Strapped to the Hood of a Car

Stefanski and Clark
On Monday, the two people to the left were at the liquor store when they thought it would be fun to strap four kids to the hood of the car.

According to a witness, the children whose ages are 4, 5, 6 and 7, had a "strap" across their legs and they were trying to get free. She said she told the two adults, "Don't do that."

The car, with the kids strapped on the hood, left the parking lot. Police received a call around 5:30 p.m. Monday reporting that a man and a woman strapped four kids to the hood of a car and left the liquor store parking lot.

Thanks to a U.S. Marshall, they didn't get very far; he stopped the car two blocks from the liquor store and detained them until police arrived. Police arrested the driver, Aaron Stefanski, 29 years-old, and passenger, 29 year-old Jessica Clark.

"They were all drunk.  They were all all high, or whatever. They've got babies on a car!  That's not nice," said Tom Nowak. Unless Tom has a driver, the police should arrest him, too. Seems to have had a few too many himself.

In a later interview with Sarah, Stefanski's ex-wife:
Sarah said she was shocked to hear her ex-husband do something like that.  She said she won't let her husband see the kids ever again.
"If the courts tell me I have to, I will," Sarah said.  "I feel for him.  I know he loves his children.  But as a mother, he put my children in harms way.  He's done."
Though her kids weren't physically hurt, she worries about the long-term effects surrounding the traumatic incident.
You can watch the full interview with Sarah here.

According to Sarah, it is out of character for either Stefanski or Clark to behave this way.  She said both are good parents; she lived next door to Clark for over two years.

Sarah said she has gotten a lot of criticism, but said she had nothing to do with it. However, since the children spend half the time with their father and half with Sarah, it's difficult to believe she didn't know Stefanski drank while the children were in his custody.

Sarah didn't want to give her last name or her age, but she appears much older than Stefanski's 29 years.

Deadly Combination

A toxic cocktail has surfaced in Albequeque, New Mexico among the homeless population.  The ingredients are legal, cheap, easy to find and can be bought 24 hours a day.

Police were doing an annual check of the homeless population when they noticed many bottles of hand sanitizer and mouthwash in the areas. The hand sanitizer and mouthwash mixed together may get them high, but it make a deadly cocktail. Police say two people have possibly died after drinking this concoction.

A homeless woman was found dead on the street with two bottles of mouthwash nearby.  A man was brutally murdered after drinking the mouthwash and hand sanitizer shots with Donald Domingo, Andrew Kinlichinniee and Kenneth Tortolita. These men are now charged with his murder.

Police are concerned that kids may try hand sanitizer and mouthwash because it is cheap and easily accessible. This is a valid concern and parents must be ever vigilant. If, suddenly, you are buying more hand sanitizer and mouthwash than usual, have a serious conversation with your children.

Not all homeless people are alcoholics or drug abusers and mouthwash and hand sanitizer are very important hygiene products. However, all homeless people will suffer if shelters stop providing these two products.

Unfortunately, those addicted to alcohol will drink anything containing alcohol to get a buzz. It is possible they are not even aware the combination is toxic.

Woman Driving 100 MPH Going Wrong Way

This guy is driving northbound on Interstate I5 when he sees drivers in the southbound lanes blinking their headlights.

So he slows...thinking it's the police or a wreck...and moves to the right lane.  Just as he moves into the right lane, a car flashes by going south in the left lane.

He just missed being involved in a head-on crash with a car traveling at speeds up to 100 mph...going the wrong way.

She drove eighteen miles...at speeds up 100 mph...in the wrong direction. Thankfully, it was early morning or there would have been more traffic.  It's nothing short of a miracle that she didn't cause herself or someone else to get into a horrific accident.

Apparently, this woman didn't even know she was on the interstate and still doesn't remember it happening.  Prescription drugs and alcohol...a dangerous combination.

Plane Lands in a Tree

A man in Wisconsin says about 10:30 Sunday night, he hears the sound of a low-flying plane "flying erratically" and circling his home.  He watches until the plane disappears.

Monday morning, he discovers the plane...landed and parked upside down in a tree.

Neighbors saw a man climb down from the plane and walk to a barn on their property where he slept for a couple of hours before going to the house to wake them and ask for help.

This idiot had to be drinking in order to sleep two hours in a Wisconsin barn in winter.  It scares me to think how many people he could have injured.  Now we must watch for drunk drivers and drunk pilots.

I have a solution...you know the breathalyzer they sometimes install in cars of repeat drunk drivers?  Well, the government should require all aircraft to have something like this installed.  The pilot would breathe into the machine and if there is alcohol or other drugs in his system, the plane won't start.

So...I wonder what his excuse will be...

I hope they throw the book at him.

Moonshine Still in Water Treatment Plant

A man working at a Groton, Mass. water treatment plant was interested in more than water treatment.

He allegedly setup a still at work and was making moonshine on the town's property.  The still was discovered a few days ago at the plant and the employee was placed on paid administrative leave. Town Manager, Mark Haddad refused to identify the employee who has since resigned.

According to LowellSun.com, he is identified as 43 year old Stephen Collette.  His wife works as Town Planner, but had no comment on her husband's moonshine making. Selectman, Peter Cunningham said:
"I think the long and short of it is that this was a hobby for the particular individual," Cunningham said yesterday. "There was never any indication he drank at work. It was a hobby, and he probably thought it was no big deal."
The town says its investigation is finished; Collette resigned making him no longer a city employee. Police confiscated the still and a sample of the water was obtained for testing.

Distilling alcohol may have been a hobby, but Collette knew it was a "big deal" to setup a still on town property. Otherwise, he would have not hidden it and would have shared information about the still with co-workers. He was smart to resign before he was charged and terminated. I wonder if he could get retirement from the town if he was convicted of a crime while working there.

As City Planner, I'm sure his wife didn't plan on this.

Until Monday,

Peace

Blind Man Denied Second Amendment Rights

Kimber Collection
Crime is on the rise even more so in this economy and gun purchases are also on the rise. Criminals have guns and law-abiding citizens want to even the playing field. Why should only criminals have guns? Being safe in this society demands being proactive if you don't want to become a statistic.

The law provides for and citizens do carry guns in our society, but should this man be allowed a gun permit?  He says he should and his lawyer agrees.

The New Jersey County Prosecutor is attempting to take Steven Hopler's gun permits. The Prosecutor says Hopler has a drinking problem and cannot care for his weapons safely. He shot himself in the leg which required hospitalization and some of his guns were stolen and used in other crimes.

When Hopler applied for a gun permit he said he wouldn't load or use the guns. He received his first gun permit in 1993 with the stipulation that he was not to load or fire the gun. Hopler went to court to fight for the removal of restrictions on his right to load and shoot a  gun. According to the New York Times, he argued that it is his constitutional right to "own a gun, even if he was not fit to fire it". "Afterward, Mr. Hopler said: 'I didn’t think that a blind person would be able to load and fire a weapon. Of course not. That would be dangerous'.”

From the New York Times:
But he returned to court and successfully had those limitations removed. He was allowed to shoot his guns if he was with somebody trained to use firearms. An acquaintance who once accompanied Mr. Hopler at a firing range said Mr. Hopler used a remote-controlled bell to locate the target, firing at the sound.
The police confiscated some of the guns that Mr. Hopler still had after the burglary. Last year after Mr. Hopler recovered from his wound, another judge ruled that he could keep his remaining guns but ordered him to complete a course on the safekeeping of weapons and have his sobriety evaluated.
Mr. Trautmann said Mr. Hopler complied with those orders, taking a six-hour course administered by the National Rifle Association. But the prosecutor’s office is again trying to have all of his gun permits revoked, leaning more heavily on the alcoholism argument, while Mr. Hopler wants to not only keep his remaining guns, but also reclaim the ones the police took.
A spokesman for the rifle association did not respond to a request for comment about Mr. Hopler’s case, but Chris Danielsen, a spokesman for the National Federation of the Blind in Baltimore, said a blind person like Mr. Hopler should not be denied his constitutional right to own a gun.
“Blind people should be subject to the same restrictions or rules that anybody else would be,” Mr. Danielsen said. “The rule should be: until you demonstrate that you do not use weapons responsibly, then you’re allowed to have them.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/26/nyregion/blind-new-jersey-man-challenged-again-on-guns.html?_r=1
What is the purpose of Mr. Hopler having guns? Yes, he has the right to own guns, but what about the rights of others. Due to his blindness, he could accidentally shoot someone or something and has already shot himself.

Mr. Hopler should not have a gun permit for the same reason that he would never be issued a drivers license.  He may have the right to own guns, but is it wise to allow him to own guns?

Should a blind man be allowed to own guns? Do his rights supersede the rights of others? I am interested in knowing what you think.  Please leave a comment.

Warning to Parents: Is Your Teen Getting High?

Kids are very creative when it comes to finding new ways to get high. We've heard about bath salts and synthetic weed, but there a few more ways kids are getting high most recently.

Eyeballing

Eyeballing is the bizarre game where kids pour vodka though the eye socket:

This method supposedly absorbs faster, but only a small amount of alcohol can enter through the eye socket so this is probably not true. However, eyeballing is the rage, although it can be very dangerous and could potentially cause blindness.

i-Dosing

Kids put on headphones, cover their heads and experience a "digital high". Internet videos show kids in distress, shaking violently, and generally freaking out.

i-Dosing is the craze and is all over the internet. Teenagers use "digital drugs" to change their brains in a way similar to real narcotics.

Tampon Soaking

Most recently, kids discovered still another way to get high...tampon soaking.

Guys also use this method by sticking the tampon...well, you can guess where. This method has been around for a while, but it's becoming more popular because there is no smell of vodka on the breath.

The i-Dosing "high" may be just the power of suggestion, but the fact that kids are trying to get high is the real problem. Tampon soaking and eyeballing can be dangerous depending on how much alcohol they absorb.

Many people take i-Dosing as a joke, but before you discount it, search the internet and read responses from teens who have tried it. In order to instruct and guide, parents must be ever-vigilant and proactive when it comes to teenagers.
