He allegedly setup a still at work and was making moonshine on the town's property. The still was discovered a few days ago at the plant and the employee was placed on paid administrative leave. Town Manager, Mark Haddad refused to identify the employee who has since resigned.
According to LowellSun.com, he is identified as 43 year old Stephen Collette. His wife works as Town Planner, but had no comment on her husband's moonshine making. Selectman, Peter Cunningham said:
"I think the long and short of it is that this was a hobby for the particular individual," Cunningham said yesterday. "There was never any indication he drank at work. It was a hobby, and he probably thought it was no big deal."The town says its investigation is finished; Collette resigned making him no longer a city employee. Police confiscated the still and a sample of the water was obtained for testing.
Distilling alcohol may have been a hobby, but Collette knew it was a "big deal" to setup a still on town property. Otherwise, he would have not hidden it and would have shared information about the still with co-workers. He was smart to resign before he was charged and terminated. I wonder if he could get retirement from the town if he was convicted of a crime while working there.
As City Planner, I'm sure his wife didn't plan on this.
Until Monday,
Peace
