Dead Beat Dad Lured by Bogus Movie Role and Thief Leaves Trail of Chips

A bounty hunter lured a dead-beat "dad" back to Allentown, Pennsylvania after he ran to Hawaii to avoid paying child support.

Joshua Garlathy was promised a bogus role in a fake Jennifer Aniston movie. Although he couldn't get money for child support, he quickly got money for airfare to Philadelphia.

Fortunately, because of a new law making it a crime to move out of state to avoid paying child support, Garlathy was immediately arrested after his flight landed.

Garlathy pleaded guilty to willful failure to pay child support. He is ordered to pay over $32,000 in back child support.  He was also sentenced to 90 days probation.

Now that he has been arrested, Garlathy says he hopes to rebuild his relationship with his daughter. So the aspiring actor now wants to be an aspiring father. Seriously?  Dead beat dads are on my list of most hated criminals.

In another story from Pennsylvania, Benjamin Sickles, 21, apparently had a serious case of the munchies.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, he broke three glass windows and a glass door at a Subway restaurant in Pittsburgh. He attempted to open the cash register but failed so he threw cups at the register.

After failing to get cash, Sickles stole nine bags of potato chips. However, cops had no problem finding him.

He left a trail of potato chip bags which led police to Sickles sitting on the steps of Washington High School where he graduated in 2009.

When police found Sickles, he had a bloody hand and foot.

Sickles is in the Washington County jail where his bail is $30,000.

Woman Fights $7500 Water Bill for Unoccupied Home

A woman is fed up fighting with the city of over a $7,500 water bill. Muriel McFadden, 71, said the house at the address billed has been unoccupied for some time.

This all started five years ago when she was trying to sell the home in Philadelphia which her family has owned for 62 years. At that time, the water bill was $32 per month, but while she had the home on the market, she began receiving water bills for over $300 per month.

She contacted the city and asked that the water be turned off because her rooming house was unoccupied. However, the residence continued to rack up outrageous water bills.

Ms. McFadden advised the city of this problem, but she could not get the issue resolved and that's how the bill reached $7,500. Even stranger is that other neighbors are having the same problem.

Rosita Youngblood, State Representative, and her staff contacted the water department about Ms. McFadden's case numerous times to no avail.

Ms. McFadden is scheduled to go to court May 16. She said the city told her she would be losing her home when she goes to court if she doesn't have the bill settled before then. She thinks the city wants to take the home.

She could be right about the city wanting her home, especially since her neighbors are having the same problem. What reason could the city have for ignoring numerous complaints about this problem?

There is no valid reason why it should take five years to get someone at the city offices to respond and when they do, it is to take her to court. The city should be required to pay Ms. McFadden for her time and five years of frustration in getting this issue resolved.

Nude Man in Walmart and Nude Man Climbs Tower

Again, I say what's up with naked criminals.  Just a few days ago, I posted about some other nude criminals...read about it here. Why do they feel the need to undress before committing stupid acts?

At around 5:30 pm on February 15, Verdon Lamont Taylor went to Walmart, stripped in the parking lot and walked nude into the store. He went to Customer Service and picked up a pair of socks and put them on. Then he decided to walk around in the store with nothing on except the socks he stole.

Taylor is 6'4" tall and weighs approximately 300 pounds, but one dedicated employee followed him around with a coat.  Either she didn't offer it or he refused it because he was still walking around naked when cops arrived.

The Walmart shoppers were avoiding him and trying not to look, but not real hard. When police arrived, Taylor refused to follow orders and they used a Taser on him before taking him into custody.  After police arrested him, he spit in the face of one officer.

Authorities charged Taylor with indecent exposure (an understatement), aggravated assault, simple assault, retail theft, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct. Taylor is in the Chester County Prison and cash bail is set at $50,000.
*************************

In early February, a man climbed the Radio Tower in Los Angeles, taking his clothes off as he climbed.

At some point, he asked for hamburgers from McDonalds and agreed to come down after he ate his meal.

Authorities were able to get him down around 9:00 PM when Police and the Fire Department brought him down in a basket.

The man is a 45 year-old Arizona resident, but police are not disclosing his name.

Police suspect he may have planned to jump, but why he climbed the tower is anyone's guess....maybe he was trying to get good cell phone reception.

If he is mentally ill, he certainly needs help, but if he was just high on drugs, he should be made to pay for all the expense he caused.

Note:  This video has no audio.

Glad authorities were able to get him down.  He had a Mac attack and...with all the free advertising, McDonald's is 'loving it'.

NOTE: I actually made two blog posts yesterday (that's strange in itself) so if you only read the one about President's Day, check the second post out here...crazy.

Faking a Relative's Death

What's up with people faking a relative's death to get time off work? It seems there is absolutely nothing some people won't do.

Scott Bennett didn't have a problem faking his mother's death.  He wrote her obituary, submitted it to the newspaper and the newspaper published it.

I can imagine Scott's mother thought she was hearing things when she learned her obit was in the newspaper.  She promptly went to the newspaper to let them know she was alive.

Can you just imagine the look on both their faces when she told newspaper employee her name and they told her who placed the obit!  As mothers do, she will forgive him and I hope he apologized to her immediately.

In another story, Joan Barnett also faked a death to get time off from work...her daughter's. She was going on vacation to Costa Rica.  Because the vacation would extend past the children's school break, she forged a death certificate for one of her daughters and presented it to the school.

How anyone could lie about the death of their mother or child is a mystery to me. I wouldn't want to even speak such a thing into being.

Both these people should seriously think about what's most important in life and it isn't time off.

Lawsuit Against Walmart -- Over 2 Cents

Shopping at Wal-Mart could be costing you more than you think.

Mary Bach, Consumer Activist, says Wal-Mart is just not doing it right:

<a href="http://video.app.msn.com/?mkt=en-us&amp;from=&amp;vid=5e453e4f-0d68-4837-8a7e-2d6e4321e8ae" target="_new" title="Woman Sues Wal-Mart For Charging Sales Tax On Full Price Of Discounted Items">Video: Woman Sues Wal-Mart For Charging Sales Tax On Full Price Of Discounted Items</a>

When I first read this story, I thought it frivolous to sue for 2 cents. I am sure she would have purchased the sausages if they were $1 and not $.98.

However, when you consider if each of Wal-mart's reported 20 million transactions daily were over by two cents, her suit doesn't seem so frivolous. Wal-Mart would make four hundred thousand per day which is almost 20 million a year!

Wal-Mart's explanation about the price change is unacceptable...they should make sure the cash register is capable of differentiating between the packages with the old sale price and the ones with the new price.

We've all read about Wal-Mart's predatory practices and political alliances which damages all of America so I say great job, Ms. Bach!

Next time you shop at Wal-Mart, make sure you check your receipt for this type "mistake" and if you use coupons, check for taxes on the coupon item.

Wal-Mart is a giant corporation, so this suit is one for the little people.

Need Help Paying For Your Wedding?

Photobucket

Most young women dream of their wedding day, but in this economy, large expensive weddings are just not practical. One couple found a way to have a wedding and pay for it as well.

Photobucket

Their bright idea was to steal copper wire from utility poles and re-sell it.

They couldn't afford the wedding they planned so they decided to make the citizens of Pennsylvania pay for their wedding.

They already have a child, he lost his job and they decide to spend money on a formal wedding. Well, it appears the joke is on them.

Wait for it...wait for it...they netted only $18.00 for the copper wire! They weren't very smart since the copper wire was valued at over $7,000. Now, they must pay $400.00 to repair the damage they did to the utility poles...can you say KARMA.

What is wrong with going to the justice of the peace or having a small, simple wedding they could afford? The money they were spending on the wedding would be better spent preparing for their life together.

The problem is people believe they are entitled to certain things whether they can afford them or not. Let's see...I want a new car which I can't afford, so I will see how stealing one goes...NOT. SMH
