Stealing electricity is a desperate act, but not very smart. They live in a camper so maybe they fell on hard times...who knows? They are both in critical condition, but very lucky they weren't electrocuted.
The father, no matter how desperate, is at fault for endangering the life of his underage daughter. I'm sure she agreed to help because she loves him. I guess Tom Russell is right when he says love is like stealing electricity.
(In father's voice) Memo to self: stealing electricity will burn, maim and/or kill me!
