Political Humor - Presidential Candidates 2012

The things that make us laugh are countless and political humor is near the top of my list. Why is political humor so funny? Well, watch these videos about some Republican candidates running for President in 2012.

Mike Tyson as Herman Cain:  "Imagine There's No Pizza"

Rick Perry - Night of the GOP Debate

Michelle Bachmann - Buy My Book...I'm President

Saving the best for last - Past Presidents, Bush, Sr., Bush, Jr., Carter, Ford, and Reagan pay a surprise visit to President Barack and Michelle Obama. The past Presidents offer Obama advice about the Consumer Protection Agency and why it's so important.

Presidential Reunion

We enjoy humor because laughing reduces stress. Laughing at ourselves and others promotes healing of the soul and that's no joke. Laughter is an inexpensive remedy for what ails you.

The best way to enjoy life is learning to see the humor in situations...sometimes you may need to look hard to find it, but it's there.

Did you laugh or, at least, smile? I certainly hope so.

Find the humor...

Sticking Your Nose Where It Doesn't Belong

Voting can be dangerous to your health. At least, it was for Greg Flanagan of Ohio. He required a trip to the hospital after voting on Tuesday.

Flanagan was at the hospital because James N. Williams, an Election Day rover, bit his nose while at an election site.

"Rover" bites nose...LOL. I realize this is not funny to Flanagan, but let's hope he has a sense of humor.

[From newsobserver.com:] "I'm glad that he turned himself in because that's the first right decision he's made in the last 24 hours," Flanagan said after hearing of Williams' surrender.

The poll workers were arguing about the distance between campaign signs and the polling place which is regulated. Flanagan told Williams "Measure the distance if you are concerned, and don't be an ass." Williams asked, "What did you say?" and Flanagan repeated his statement.

Flanagan says he intervened because "My main purpose was to defuse the situation and to protect the woman,"

Flanagan is correct in saying Williams made the right decision by surrendering himself to police. Williams assaulted Flanagan and should be charged.

But what about Flanagan's decision-making skills.

He intervenes in an argument between two poll workers. Williams was not physically attacking the female poll worker so there was no need to "protect the woman". He says he hoped to "defuse the situation". Flanagan thought calling Williams an "ass" would defuse the situation...really?

Flanagan got the worse end of an argument he instigated when he stuck his nose into the business of the poll workers and it got bitten.

Polish Campaign Ad - Risque

Prior to elections, there are always campaign ads urging voters to vote for this person or another.  But, most likely, you have not seen an ad campaign like the one for Katarzyne Lenart from Poland.

Ms. Lenart is running for office (not sure which office) and below are two of her campaign ads.  First, the second ad:

Below, is the first and most controversial campaign ad:

It's difficult when one doesn't speak the language, but I think you get the point. According to an article I read, Ms. Lenart plans to win and she believes this ad will ensure she does just that because it gets the attention of voters.  Most likely, she will get the male vote, but will Polish women go for this ad?

Using sex in advertising treats the female body like any other commodity.  This ad creates a distortion on how women should be viewed in society.  Not only women, but men are negatively affected by these ads as well because it encourages men to see women as sex objects.

Unfortunately, sex sells in advertising, but a politician should not be elected based on how sexy she appears or how well she is liked by the population.  What about her ability to perform the job for which she campaigns?  What about her platform; her beliefs, ideas and plans?

I am not a prude, but it is inappropriate to campaign for any office using overt or covert sexual ads to get votes. This is supposed to be the modern age of enlightenment as it relates to gender issues. Apparently, Poland doesn't have a problem with striptease being used to get votes.

Unquestionably, her ad will get attention.  However, sexual advertising sends a message...and in this instance, it is a negative one.
