Prior to elections, there are always campaign ads urging voters to vote for this person or another. But, most likely, you have not seen an ad campaign like the one for Katarzyne Lenart from Poland.
Ms. Lenart is running for office (not sure which office) and below are two of her campaign ads. First, the second ad:
Below, is the first and most controversial campaign ad:
It's difficult when one doesn't speak the language, but I think you get the point. According to an article I read, Ms. Lenart plans to win and she believes this ad will ensure she does just that because it gets the attention of voters. Most likely, she will get the male vote, but will Polish women go for this ad?
Using sex in advertising treats the female body like any other commodity. This ad creates a distortion on how women should be viewed in society. Not only women, but men are negatively affected by these ads as well because it encourages men to see women as sex objects.
Unfortunately, sex sells in advertising, but a politician should not be elected based on how sexy she appears or how well she is liked by the population. What about her ability to perform the job for which she campaigns? What about her platform; her beliefs, ideas and plans?
I am not a prude, but it is inappropriate to campaign for any office using overt or covert sexual ads to get votes. This is supposed to be the modern age of enlightenment as it relates to gender issues. Apparently, Poland doesn't have a problem with striptease being used to get votes.
Unquestionably, her ad will get attention. However, sexual advertising sends a message...and in this instance, it is a negative one.
Peace
