Fleeing Police...Slowly

Keith Brown, 54, was arrested December 5 when he led police on a car chase and crashed the Toyota he was driving into a bridge. Police stopped him because his brake light was out.

To avoid arrest, he tried to jump in the river, but landed on the bank and fractured his skull and broke his leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Because of a "communication breakdown", he was accidentally released from the hospital and disappeared. Police were searching for him but didn't find him until January 17.

Police received information from informants as to Brown's whereabouts. While patrolling the area, police recognized Brown driving a Isuzu Rodeo.  Brown recognized them and he sped off driving up to 60 mph in a residential neighborhood.

The chase only lasted for a mile and a half before the Isuzu wrecked and got stuck in some mulch. Brown didn't learn anything  from the first incident and again tried to escape on foot.  But police had the advantage this time.  Officers say it was a very short foot chase since he was using a walker (remember he broke his leg)!

Did he actually think he could get away on foot using a walker?  Officers say it didn't take long to catch him as he couldn't go very fast.

You can see the mugshot here.  Brown is charged with two felonies in the Dec. 5 incident: hit-and-run, felony eluding and driving after being declared a habitual offender. Now he has additional charges from this incident: felony eluding and driving after being declared a habitual offender

I don't think we need to worry about him driving for quite some time.  All this for a busted brake light.

Peace
