A young woman from Thailand (or Vietnam depending on which report you read) mysteriously ages in a few days. In 2008, she had an allergic reaction to seafood. She took many prescribed medications, but this is how Phuong looks now:
It's understandable you might mistake her for someone much, much older. After suffering an allergic reaction in 2008 and taking a variety of medications prescribed for it, her skin on her face, neck and hands rapidly wrinkled and became saggy, giving her the appearance of a 70 year-old grandmother.
Her name is Nguyun Thi Phuong. The allergic reaction caused her face to break out in a terrible itchy rash. Her husband, Nguyen Thank Tuyen, 34, got some medication for her which she took, but the medication didn't work so she saw a local doctor who gave her medications for dermatitis.
But, these pills made her face swell and caused hives on her skin. She decided to seek help from local traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.
However, this medication reduced the swelling but caused weight gain. Also, it's very expensive at a cost of VND30,000 ($1.88) per day and didn't really help her condition.
Soon after, Phuong began wearing a face mask. Her husband quit his job in 2009 to take care of her, but then he couldn't afford the medication so she stopped all medications. Eventually, she and her husband stopped trying to cure her, accepting that it was her fate decreed by God.
Before all this, Nguyun Thi Phuong was a beautiful woman and a few days later she had aged years. Below, is her before picture:
Doctors all over the world are offering to help this young woman. It appears now, they may know the cause.
I hope Phuong regains her youthful looks. Her husband, Tuyen, says his love for her hasn't faded and plans to stay by her side. His attitude is very refreshing.
