Man Beaten With Toilet Seat and Man Arrested for Refusing to Leave Jail

Police were called on Saturday morning, July 21, to a home in Southern Highlands in Las Vegas because a man was throwing things around inside his own home.

When the police officer arrived, Ronald Hetzel was sitting on the curb without a shirt and screaming.  Police attempted to calm him down, but he went into the house when the officer tried to talk to him.

While the police officer was waiting for backup, Hetzel went out the back door of his home.  He jumped the fence to a neighbor's house and broke in through a patio window. 

Hetzel was confronted by the homeowner.  He hit the homeowner over the head with a guitar and a porcelain toilet seat.

Backup arrived and police established a perimeter around the Hetzel's house and thought they had him contained.

But, Hetzel was in the neighbor's house beating and strangling him for twenty minutes before police heard a struggle going on in the neighbor's house.

Officers approached that home, Hetzel fled, jumping the fence into a second neighbor's backyard where he was finally apprehended.

The neighbor is fine, but he has many bruises, especially around his neck.

Police charged Hetzel with home invasion, battery and attempted murder. Now that's something for him to scream about.

Jumping those tall fences in a single bound?  Ummm..he doesn't appear that athletic.  I know, maybe he was on some drug that gave him super human strength.

Rodney Dwayne Valentine had been in jail since May 22 when he was released on July 21 from the Rockingham County jail in North Carolina.

Rockingham Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Valentine asked for a ride to a motel, but police refused.

When he was still at the jail Saturday afternoon, he was re-arrested for trespassing.

His bond is $500, but if he couldn't get a ride home, he probably won't get his bond paid.  So he will be in jail for another few months.

If this situation happens again, I'm sure Valentine will find a ride home or leave on foot.

Husband of NC Lottery Winner Arrested for Stealing Ticket

Mikala Fields won $1 million in a scratch-off ticket game.  Shortly after, her husband, Sean Michael Mewherter, was charged with stealing the lottery ticket.

On July 2, Fields, of Oak Island, presented the winning ticket to the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL).

Fields, a college student, chose to receive a lump sum settlement of $600,000 and received a check for $408,003 after taxes.

Fields said, "It's honestly just luck. You actually can win." Fields said she would use the money to finish her nursing education, to buy a house and invest for her future.

After the money was rewarded, Sean Mewherter's manager at a Kangaroo Express in Oak Island, contacted the NCEL. An investigation revealed the lottery ticket was obtained illegally while Mewherter worked at the Kangroo Express.

Brunswick County Sheriff's Office

A short time later, Mewherter was arrested by Oak Island police and security officials from the NCEL.

Mewherter was arrested at the Kangaroo Express and taken to jail.

He is charged with larceny by an employee and possession of stolen goods over $100,000.

Authorities didn't explain how Mewherter obtained the winning ticket; whether it was stolen from a customer or by other means.

Mewherter posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail.

Mikala Fields has not been arrested, but the investigation is continuing. Lottery official plan to recover the reward money from Fields. Unless she spent $408,003 in a few days, it should not be difficult to recover most of the reward money.

This story leaves me with more questions than answers. Was Mikala Fields involved in the scam. I get suspicious when someone uses "honestly" in a statement.  Where did she say she got the winning ticket?

How did Sean Mewherter know which scratch-off ticket to steal?

Aren't lottery tickets chosen randomly?

Doctor Calls 911 for Intruder; Gets Arrested for Drugs

Wednesday, Dr Sheila Cassioli Cooper came home for lunch. She noticed the back window was open and when she went inside, she heard someone upstairs.  She went back outside the house and called police.

Police searched the house for intruders.  They didn't find any intruders, but they did find something.  In the basement, police found a marijuana "grow" operation.

Narcotics officers were summoned to the residence where they found "approximately one pound of dried and processed marijuana in various states of preparation, as well as an indoor grow tent, light, ventilation, storage containers and smoking devices.  They also recovered two long guns."

Dr. Cooper, who is an optometrist, and her husband, John Bailey Owen Cooper were each charged with felony possession of marijuana, manufacture of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition to these charges, John Cooper was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Bond was set at $5,000 for Sheila Cooper and John Cooper's bond was set at $10,000. However, both have bonded out of jail.

It seems very odd that the doctor would contact police if she knew the grow operation was in the basement.  Police would be the last people she would want searching her home.  She would have called her husband to check for an intruder.

That leaves her husband, John Cooper. Could he have kept his grow operation a secret from her? Police removed "ventilation" so maybe the smell didn't reach upstairs.

It's just difficult to believe Shelia Cooper knew there was a grow house in the basement and still called police.  She was probably shocked when she was arrested; her facial expression in her mugshot is like...WTF.

If she did know about the grow operation and called 911 to search her home, then she is absolutely, undoubtedly the dumbest criminal ever!

Naked Man Running

A man took advantage of the hot weather in Wilmington, NC on Friday. He was seen running through a Wilmington neighborhood in the nude.

He apparently thought he was a dog...he chased cars, leapt into the bushes and jumped on moving cars.

A witness said Newkirk, ran up to a woman on a cell phone, took it from her hand and threw it on the ground.

Police caught William Paul Newkirk, 22, around 2 p.m. and transported him to New Hanover County Medical Center.


Newkirk told police he took three hits of acid before he decided to go out and play in traffic. He broke into two houses and left his clothing behind one of the homes (explains why he was naked). It was at this point, that he decided to chase cars.

Police charged Newkirk with misdemeanor and felony breaking and entering and with interfering with 911. The last charge is because he destroyed the woman's cell phone as she was attempting to call 911.

The only good thing about LSD (acid) is that it is non-addicting, but it is not harmless.  Acid causes an increase in body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure along with tremors, delusions and visual hallucinations.  These changes must be frightening...and next comes panic.  So knowing the effects of acid, why would anyone want to try.

Laptop Shooting Tommy Jordan and Hannah Marie on TODAY Show

Tommy Jordan, the guy who shot his daughter's laptop, is in the news again.  He and his daughter, Hannah Marie, were on "TODAY" yesterday to discuss the video.  Jordan says he still stands by his actions.

Hannah Marie, said, "I think he overacted a little bit, but I understand."



Jordan says he would do it again and Hannah won't be getting a laptop any time in the near future. However, he claims he removed the hard drive with data and pictures before shooting the laptop.

Why would they come on the show?  Jordan says Hannah is still grounded so why is she in New York?  I'm sure Hannah doesn't want to be reminded of the incident, especially before millions of people, but here they are on television. More than likely, TODAY compensated them for being on the show...maybe it was the offer of money.  I'm sure it was Jordan's decision to come on the show.

Although, I only saw this clip from the show, it doesn't seem they are a happy family. Did you notice the body language?  Hannah appears to be very uncomfortable and she is sitting away from her father. When Hannah was speaking, Jordan didn't look in her direction.  It doesn't appear he has forgiven her if he can't look at her.

I feel sorry for Hannah Marie and I'm more inclined to believe what she wrote is mostly true. I still say Jordan needs anger management.

NC Man Shoots Daughter's Computer

Parents who have teenagers know they can drive you to the point of absolutely losing it sometimes.  I imagine that's what happened to Tommy Jordan when he found his daughter's Facebook post by accident.

Jordan of Albemarle, NC was updating software on Hannah's computer. Jordan says he worked six hours on Hannah's laptop that day and spent $130 on new software and that's when he found the post made by Hannah. Hannah thought she had hidden this post from her parents, but her father works in IT and found the nasty post she made, titled "To My Parents".

Jordan, obviously upset, decided to make a video of her "punishment".  In the video, he reads the post Hannah wrote. He rants for a few minutes and then the camera moves to Hannah's laptop on the ground.  Jordan takes out his .45 and shoots nine bullets into her laptop.

In her letter, Hannah cursed several times which her father says is disrespectful, but you can see where she gets it.

I can imagine Hannah's "rebellious post" hurt and embarrassed her parents and apparently Jordan decided to hurt and embarrass his daughter. Jordan posted this video on Hannah's Facebook page and on YouTube.  As of today, this video has 21,400,462 views on YouTube.
In the video, Jordan says:

"Hannah, you were grounded for about three months for doing something very similar to this and I would have thought with a father that worked in IT for a living that you'd have better sense than to do it again."

Yes, Hannah should have had better sense, but she is a teenager.  All teenagers say bad things about their parents at some point...it goes with the territory.  It definitely wasn't a smart thing to shoot the laptop. Now Jordan is out his time, $130 and a laptop (he paid for it).

Teenagers can be difficult to deal with especially when they become rebellious and I totally understand how Tommy Jordan feels.  Do you think Jordan dealt with his daughter's rebellion appropriately?  Should he have embarrassed her among her friends?  What did he teach her with this video?

Woman Uses Bible Verses to Ward Off Attacker

A Shelby, North Carolina woman, Lindsey Wood, 32 years-old, and her son had just come home from Bible study. Her 15 year-old son went to the curb to get the trash can.  From ShelbyStar.com:

He told police "a man he didn't know rushed past him. He saw the man run toward the back of the house. His mother was unlocking the rear door at the same time. Wood's son told police he heard his mother talking to the man but couldn’t understand their conversation. He said the man had a “deep voice,” according to a police report.

Moments later, the man pulled out a knife. He swung the blade and sliced into the right side of Wood's neck.  After the attack, Wood started speaking to the man about Bible verses and church, Stafford said. Wood didn’t call 911 until 10:24 p.m., after the attacker left."

He held her hostage for an hour and a half while she was bleeding from her neck wound.  She invited him to church...and read Bible verses to him.  All this after he slit her throat!  It's a miracle she is alive and that she could breathe, yet she read the Bible. Woods is in the hospital recovering from her injuries. She required 20 -25 stitches and staples in her neck and she is attached to a ventilator and a feeding tube.

Why didn't her 15 year-old son go for help rather than listening and hiding for ninety minutes in the backyard? He heard what was happening to his mom, but he stayed hidden.  It seems odd that he would hide rather than get help for his mom.  There were neighbors close by but he decided to sit, listen and wait.

Police say they want to get this guy off the streets, but there is no description of the intruder.  Maybe I watch too many crime television shows, but this story sounds off.  I hope it is not another case of a child wanting to get rid of a parent. I can't imagine any15 year-old child listening to his mom pleading with her attacker for ninety minutes and doing nothing.

Obviously, the intruder was there to do her harm...probably to kill her. But he didn't and before he left, he apologized! What stopped him from finishing her off?

Something she said to him changed his mind...and what she said to him came from the Bible.

Woman Refuses To Move From McDonalds Drive Thru

Everyone knows that you must wait your turn in the drive-thru line at fast food restaurants.  You stop at the order screen and place your order, drive to the first window and pay for your order, then drive to the second window and pick up your order.  Pretty easy...right?

Evangelina Luca drove up to a North Carolina McDonalds with her daughter, but she didn't stop at the order screen.  Instead, she drove straight past the drive-thru traffic and drove to the pick-up window.  When she tried to place her order there, she was told she would need to go to the end of the line...that she couldn't place an order at the pick-up window.

She didn't like what she was told and demanded they take her order, but they refused.  She decided to wait them out and she parked at the pick-up window. She was sitting there for 20 minutes before McDonald's staff called police.

She apparently didn't like what the officers had to say either.  Police had to use the dry taser to get her to leave McDonalds pick-up window.

Police say she got really mad when they arrived.  Three police officers got into the car and tried to drag her out, but she wasn't 'loving it'.  Officers weren't 'loving it' either so they used the dry taser...twice before she "flopped out of the car like a fish" according to a customer.

Apparently she believes she does not have to wait in line like all the other drive-thru customers.  Employees at the McDonalds say she drives to the pick-up window to order frequently because she doesn't want to wait in line and said "we're not having it anymore".  

Luca's three year-old was in the car the entire time watching this craziness. Social Workers took custody of the child when Luca was arrested.  Luca is charged with second-degree trespassing.

She apparently thought she was at Burger King where she can have it her way.

Cops Believe Inmate Hid Revolver In His Rectum

Friday, a 22 year-old Georgia resident, Michael Leon Ward, was stopped by North Carolina Troopers for speeding.

Troopers entered his information in the computer and learned he was a fugitive on a murder warrant in Atlanta.  He resisted arrest and police had to use a stun gun to control him.

After a search of his car, Ward was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  So...he's taken to jail, processed and place in a cell.

The next morning he calls jailers to his cell...he says someone is trying to kill him and, in the toilet, is a 10 inch, .38 barrel revolver.

Police say he brought the gun to jail in his rectum...What?!!?

Police say he was stripped searched...why didn't they find the gun during the search?  Police can't answer that question, but say they are investigating.

Ward says someone was trying to kill him...he found the gun in his cell and threw it in the toilet.  But maybe he had to poop and it came out in the toilet and Ward is trying to find a way to explain the gun being in his cell.

Ironically, Ward was taken to the hospital Saturday for injuries that may have come from the revolver that police believe he concealed in his rectum.

If police are right, Ward must have had the gun in his rectum before they stopped him...that could be why he was speeding.

Ward's behavior brings new meaning to the term "concealed weapon".  After close analysis, something about this story just doesn't smell right.

The gun wasn't loaded so bringing the gun in his backdoor didn't kill him.  No, it didn't kill him, but it certainly rectum.
