Man Arrested Forty Times; Woman Arrested Forty-One Times

Stephen Brewster, a 32 year-old Sarasota, Florida man, has been arrested forty times!  His latest arrest on February 21, for car burglary, made arrest number forty.

His rap sheet includes arrests for fraud, stealing credit cards, criminal mischief, forgery, robbery, petty theft, loitering, grand theft...and that's only a portion of his arrests.

Sheriff Tom Knight says, "If anybody out there has the answers, we would like to have it. Because we're frustrated, too, with arresting the same people over and over and over again."

In another story, Lisa Riley, 49, of Gainesville, Florida, was arrested February 19 and her rap sheets indicates this is her forty-first arrest for fifty-five crimes!  Her latest arrest was for stealing merchandise worth $76.83 from a Dollar General Store.

According to Florida Department of Corrections records, Riley has served 4 state terms since 1988 and was last released in 2005.

Their arrest records are since adulthood which means Brewster has been arrested forty-one times in fourteen years.  Riley has fifty-five arrests in thirty-one years.

Florida must have laws that deal with habitual misdemeanor criminals. So why are the judges letting them off so easily?

I can understand Sheriff Knight's frustration. Repeat criminals waste the State's time and resources.  Maybe the State should change the laws to make it a felony after so many arrests.

Peace
