Greg Smith is pictured next to the sign in White Lake Township, Michigan. He complained about this school sign to the township. He said cars almost come to a stop to read it!
The sign lists six different, odd times during the day that the speed limit is 25 MPH!
The town has an elementary, middle and high school all in the same area which they say is the reason for the sign.
Police Chief Ed Harris plans to call a meeting with the White Lake Township Supervisor, the Huron Valley School District and the Road Commission in Oakland County to discuss the sign. Chief Harris says the township did not put the sign up, but they are working to resolve the issue.
This sign is impossible to read while driving. You can't read that much information in the time it takes to pass the sign. It's also a driving hazard and a speed trap. Umm...I wonder how many tickets police wrote in the area last year?
No one is taking responsibility for installing the sign. I can't blame them because it is one of the craziest school signs I've seen.
White Lake Township, here are three options that make much more sense:
1. Change the sign to read 6:49 to 4:29 25 MPH on school days
2. Install a flashing light that is in sync with the six different times
3. Change the speed limit to 25 MPH all day Monday through Friday
Whoever installed the sign should have known these times could potentially cause traffic problems. If the township didn't install the sign, then it seems the township or the county could remove it.
No, that's too easy, they must first have a meeting to decide what to do about the sign. Let's hope they take one of my suggestions.
Peace
