OMG...I recently read and saw the video about the toddler in Cambodia who gets his milk directly from the source...a cow's teat!
The story in the news is that the parents left the child with the grandfather while they went elsewhere looking for work. The grandfather claims the toddler saw the calves suckling the cow and then imitated them. According to the grandfather, he cannot stop the child...he cries if he removes him. But, it appears he is assisting the toddler in this behavior. Grandfather says the cow's milk is the child's major source of nourishment.
This child may get all kinds of germs and infections from this behavior. And at 18 months old, cow's milk should not be the major source of sustenance. It makes me sick to watch this video! I know Cambodia is a totally different culture from ours, but I just can't imagine that this is acceptable.
I understand the parents' need for work so I don't want to judge too harshly. I'm sure there are behaviors we have that people in Cambodia would think strange (even we think some of them strange). The grandfather is probably not the best person to raise this child; however, he is possibly the only person available.
I wish I could adopt all the suffering and/or mistreated children of the world and keep them safe.
What are your thoughts on this video?
With a heavy heart,
Peace
