Wife Drives with Husband on Hood of Car

Lavetta Graham of Newport News, Virginia stabbed her husband in the stomach and sprayed him with pepper spray in May.

Graham and her husband, Derrick Graham were in court last Wednesday where Derrick testified against his estranged wife at a Newport News Domestic Court in a preliminary hearing. Lavetta Graham admitted stabbing Derrick with scissors.

They left the court around 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 25.  Lavetta got into Derrick's 2003 chevy Envoy and tried to leave.

When she refused to stop, Derrick jumped on the hood of the SUV.  He said, "So before I could even turn around, I heard the car revving. It was either jump on the truck or get hit."

Derrick said he pleaded with her to stop. Instead of stopping, Lavetta accelerated and drove with her husband on the hood up the ramp to Interstate 664.

At some point, Derrick jumped or fell from the hood and Lavetta kept driving and she hasn't been seen since.

Derrick said he kept asking his estranged wife to stop the SUV, but he said she stared him in the eyes, but she had a blank stare.

"The whole thing was just trying to hold on because she was swerving left and right. I kept trying to tell her to slow down. She was speeding up and by the time we got up to the 664 ramp, that's all I remember. I was on top, and I woke up in here [hospital]."

Lavetta Graham is still fleeing from police. Police initially believed she was driving Derrick's SUV with Missouri tag number DCIPIP.

However, yesterday police found Derrick's SUV. Virginia State Police said they recovered the Chevy Envoy and they now believe Lavetta Graham may be headed to Ohio. This time in a blue Dodge van with Virginia tag number XKT2768.

Derrick Graham, who is going to be fine, said he is filing for divorce as soon as he gets out of the hospital. Watch the video of Derrick's hospital interview.

Lavetta Graham is seriously out of control and I hope she is caught and arrested soon.

Although I know it's a first instinct for some, never stand in front of a car...you can't stop it with your body.

Virginia Co-Pastor Charged with DUI

Jay James Bertrand, Co-Pastor of Varina Baptist Church in Virginia is charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs after he had two car accidents in one day.

In the first accident, he crossed three lanes of oncoming traffic, ran up on the side walk, crashed into a Krispy Kreme donuts shop and knocked a painter off a ladder.

Fortunately, everyone in the building is safe, but the painter received minor injuries. Police say Bertrand was taken to the hospital, but he refused treatment and left. Friends say he was doing fine after the accident.

A few hours later, Bertrand decides to take his wife's car out. Police say he was at a stop light on Patterson Avenue and when the light turned green, he did not move. The car behind him drove around him and when she stopped at the next intersection, Bertrand rear-ended her car.

The woman was not hurt in the accident. Bertrand told police he did not remember what happened; he had taken some medication.

"He had a back seizure and couldn't move." What, exactly, is a back seizure?

Serious back pain usually requires narcotics and it would be negligent for a doctor to advise "full liberties to operate machinery, to drive".

Driving under the influence of prescription drugs is irresponsible. There is no difference in this situation than someone driving under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. He made a conscious decision to take drugs and drive.

Bertrand is lucky no one was seriously injured in the two accidents. Why didn't he just raise his hands towards heaven and say "Jesus Take the Wheel"!

Peace
