Cole, 57, did not want to serve on jury duty so she came up with a plan. For court, she dressed in a tee shirt with "Ask me about my bestseller" on the front, a dress skirt, reindeer socks, a white shoe and a black shoe, hair curlers of multiple colors, blackened eyebrows and bright, red lipstick.
The judge asked her about mental issues and she said yes she had mental issues. Cole said, "So the judge asked if anybody cares if she leaves and everybody, all at once said, in a great big loud voice, 'No' ".
Cole said she and her roommate laughed until they cried. She told customers in her beauty salon and they all had a good laugh.
Several months later, she called in to a local radio show and "confessed" what she had done in court. What she didn't know was that the judge, Anne Mansfield, was listening to the radio show.
Judge Mansfield remembered this incident (how could she not) and did not think it was funny. Now Cole is in a lot of trouble. She is charged with perjury in the first degree and attempt to influence a public servant.
According to the Smoking Gun, "She also claimed to have lived on the street and that she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from domestic abuse she experienced" as a military wife.
From CBS 4 in Denver:
“The charges allege that on June 28, 2011, Cole knowingly made false statements under oath during jury selection in a Denver District Courtroom and that her deceit was an attempt to influence the court so that she would be excused from jury duty,” Lynn Kimbrough with the Denver District Attorney’s Office said in a statement."Too late for Cole to put a spin on the story now. Her stunt was a stupid and costly one for her. At 57 years-old, she should know better than to perjure herself in court. And if that wasn't crazy enough, she told on herself and laughed about it on the radio. Did she think she no one else listened to that radio show?
In this case, wisdom does not come with age...just gray hair (colored, of course).
Peace
