Scrap Metal Thief Pocket Dials 911

Michael Gorneau went to a Connecticut company that makes metal doors to steal scrap metal. While he was stealing the scrap metal, he pocket dialed 911.

Police could only hear a rustling sound before the call was disconnected and thought someone may need medical help. They used GPS to identify the caller's location.

When the Southington police officer drove into the lot, it was a case of caught in the act. Michael Gorneau had already loaded 700 pound of scrap metal in his truck.

Gorneau was charged with third-degree criminal trespassing and sixth-degree larceny. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released.

Frequently, criminals are caught because they pocket dial 911. There are locks and apps to prevent accidentally dialing, but I guess criminals are not smart enough to know how to prevent butt dialing or they can not read.  Or, maybe criminals pocket dialing 911 is just karma.

Lucky for the police, criminals using smart phones are not very smart; it makes arresting them so much easier.

Peace
